The Power of an Effective Corporate Health Program

It is estimated that Canadian employees spend 2/3 of their life in the workplace. Investing in employee health exemplifies employee appreciation. Management should place at least the same thought and priority on implementing a corporate wellness program as on customer satisfaction. Employee & customer retention are vitally important to corporate survival.

Excuse my bias, but at the very core of every healthcare initiative is proper nutrition and exercise....effective exercise. Any decent wellness program must integrate this dynamic duo into employee lifestyle.....no excuses. The job of a good fitness expert is to find a way to implement exercise and healthy eating into any lifestyle. This cannot be done in a generic workshop. The expert must enable the employees with the organizational skills that are critical to implementation of a healthier lifestyle.

Major contributors to employee absenteeism and presenteeism are emotional/mental health disorders, stress, poor fitness levels, smoking & workplace conflict. An effective employee program which focuses on health and wellness can help control spiraling costs...Bottom line: You’ve saved the company mega dollars and you are a  “great boss”. What a smart investment!

Facts about a successful corporate wellness program

-Lowered absenteeism:  lowered sick leave costs

-Improved productivity - we work harder for those that invest in us.

Reduced usage of EAP (Employee Assistance Programs)

Stronger teamwork and cooperation

Increased morale and employee engagement

Improved corporate image and loyalty

According to the HRPA (Human Resources Professional Association) employee absenteeism is up a whopping 30% since 1997. Employee instigated turn over rates are on the rise and less than 20% of employees are “highly engaged” - English translation - care about their job.
